Geocache Description:

To access this cache, please drive on Danville Hill Road and turn on Old Center Rd and park at the trail head. Use the mini trail to get to the cache. WELCOME TO CABOT, VT! Home of the yummy Cabot Cheese! At this cache location, you will find the original center of Cabot which was founded on August 17, 1780 by Benjamin Webster. Settlement began three years later in 1783. Cabot was named after Sophia Cabot, the intended wife of another settler named Lyman Hitchcock. Although we don't exactly know what the foundation at the location was, there is a stone behind it that has Concl Church 1800. Which can make some speculations meaning that the foundation may have been a church. Sophia Cabot was a descendant of John Cabot ( Born in Italy with the surname Caboto ). The town was then abandoned later on and moved down about a mile from the Old Center of Cabot. If you would like to find more information on Cabot, you may visit the Cabot Public Library which is open everyday except for Friday and Sunday. You may also visit the Cabot Historical Society building or website. The Cabot Historical Society is open on two days each year to the public or you can schedule an appointment to explore. Please BYOP. You are looking for a black micro. Good Luck, Have Fun, and Explore Parts of History! Also, you can post some photos of your visit! Just no photos of the geocache please or the exact hiding spot. THANK YOU!
