This cache involved some work from me in my workshop today and I am so grateful to have those woodworking tools available to me! It has been placed within a metre of the cinder path which leads from the cul de sac at the end of TRINITY PLACE down to the steel bridge over the Kinness Burn.
There is a beautiful view from this bridge towards the Old Mill Cottage and the weir. This was once a working mill which was driven by the power of water. Sometimes the water from the burn was trapped in ponds such as the one that is behind this old stone cottage. At other times it was diverted down lades which were channels usually made in wood. Thiis fearure is why the pathway leading into town is called Lade Braes. Children growing up in this area always simply referred to this pond as the duck pond not realising its ancient heritage and purpose for being there.
if you are heading downhill it is on the right side of the path. Please DO NOT go exploring down the steep banks at the side of the path, believe me when I say it is visible from the path and does not involve climbing around in undergrowth which may include scratchy things and stinging nettles. My granddaughters who were staying for a short stay over talked me into this one. This cache may be walked to from town along the Lade Braes pathway.
