Geocache Description:

The village of Theriso is a small but historically significant settlement located in the mountains near the city of Chania on the island of Crete, Greece. It is located about 16 kilometers from Chania, at an altitude of about 580 meters above sea level.

The main feature of the village is its role in the Cretan resistance. In 1905, an uprising took place here under the leadership of Eleftherios Venizelos, one of the most famous politicians in Greece. This event was an important milestone on the way to the unification of Crete with mainland Greece.

Today, Teriso attracts tourists with its picturesque location in a gorge, traditional Cretan architecture, the Venizelos Museum, cozy taverns, and a peaceful atmosphere. The village can be reached via a narrow mountain road that passes through a beautiful gorge with steep cliffs and shady trees.

It is an excellent destination for those interested in history, nature, and a genuine Cretan experience away from mass tourism.

Cache is a plastic ice cream box buried under rocks in the riverbed. See the photo for instructions on how to find it.
