O mountainboard, um desporto derivado do snowboard, surgiu no início da década de 1990, quando os praticantes de snowboard procuravam uma atividade de verão.

Mountainboard in Sintra

Mountainboarding, a sport derived from snowboarding, emerged in the early 1990s when snowboarders were looking for a summer activity.
This track, which has existed since 2003, was created for freestyle mountainboarding by a group of young people who, due to a lack of infrastructure, decided to take matters into their own hands and begin building the park. Over the years, there has been a lot of collaboration from new riders, and the track has grown with them.
Currently, mountainboarding in Portugal has about five regular riders (and others who join when they can) who meet on weekends to have fun and maintain the area.
This group, nicknamed the West Mountainboard Crew, is responsible for maintaining the area, organizing events and competitions throughout the country, activities, and mountainboarding lessons.

The place

In addition to practicing this sport, it has served as a refuge, as an alternative to the overcrowded (and overpreiced) gardens of today's tourist-oriented Sintra, for the local population and teenagers from the nearby school, who often come here to socialize with friends or family.
