Deze cache is onderdeel van de serie Sporen van de Bevrijding. Deze cache is geplaatst voor het evenement Sporen van de bevrijding: Airborne 2025 om een indruk te geven van waar we allemaal voor staan en om te laten zien waarom we de vrijheid kunnen vieren. En vooral om niet te vergeten en om de mensen te herdenken die hun leven hebben gegeven voor deze vrijheid.
 

[SvdB] De Polen van Driel G: Hinderlaag

Over het rondje: De Polen van Driel bestaat uit 23 geocaches en richt zich op het verhaal van de Polen die bij Driel werden gedropt.
 

Het rondje kan op de fiets en lopend worden gedaan. De auto is NIET geschikt!! 
Een deel van de caches ligt op plekken waar je met de auto niet kunt/mag komen.
 

Wees voorzichtig tijdens het zoeken en met de caches zelf, er zit heel veel werk in dit rondje en het zou zonde zijn als het een “vroegtijdige dood zou sterven.”

Er is een variatie aan verschillende geocache types en verstop manieren en D/T waardes.

Je zult eerst de puzzels moeten oplossen voordat je op pad kunt, die vindt je steeds bij de eerste van een serie. Voor de Polen van Driel: GCB9VZF

Je hebt op dit rondje in ieder geval een hengel nodig .

“Richard died ‎22-09-1944, aged 22, early in the morning during his first battles in an ambush. The Germans shouted ‘Don’t shoot’ as they approached the platoon’s positions. They pretended to be English or American soldiers .. Then they opened fire and Tice was hit and died immediately.

The amazing story of 2nd Lieutenant Richard K. Tice, one of two Americans to have volunteered to serve in the 1st Independent Polish Parachute Brigade in World War II. He was killed in action on Sep. 22, 1944:

Remembering Poland, by way of the only American buried in this British cemetery on Dutch soil. Our team paid their respects to him today. In 1940 at age 18, Richard Kresge Tice left his job as a racehorse handler in Allentown, PA, and enlisted in the U.S. Army. His career was soon cut short when medics discovered that he had a punctured eardrum. Determined to serve, Tice hitchhiked to Canada and enlisted in the British sponsored Polish forces. There he studied Polish, and soon received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. As an officer he was assigned to the 1st (Polish) Independent Airborne Brigade which trained in Scotland. Despite the brigade's repeated attempts to gain a battle assignment, it kept being put on reserve status, even during D-Day. That changed on September 21, 1944. Tice and his men parachuted from a Dakota with chalk number 62, near the village of Driel, not far from Arnhem. The Poles descended into murderous Nazi fire. Once on the ground, Tice and his men scrambled to take up a defensive position on a farm on the outskirts of Driel. The next day, Nazi infantry and armored cars assaulted Tice’s position. Tice was killed. The 1st (Polish) Independent Airborne Brigade had parachuted in with mission of supporting elements of the British 1st Airborne Division. The British had become trapped during their attempt to capture the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem—the famed "Bridge Too Far." The battle for the bridge lasted nine days, resulting in staggering for the British and for the Poles. Tice died as an American fighting under the Polish flag and now rests in British care in Dutch earth here at Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery—the British Airborne Cemetery. Tice's story shows how small the world had become in the fight to end Nazi aggression. And, it shows how determined our Greatest Generation was to win—so determined that someone would hitchhike to war, learn a new language to lead, and jump out of plane under fire to fight. While we pause at Tice's sacrifice, we can not help but be inspired by his actions. We met some Polish scouts at his grave today who felt the same way. 2nd Lt. Tice and his men parachuted from a Dakota with chalk number 62, near the village of Driel, not far from Arnhem. Operation Market Garden was on its fifth day. The Poles descended into murderous Nazi fire. Once on the ground, Tice and his men scrambled to take up a defensive position on a farm on the outskirts of the town. Jouw taak is om het eindpunt te vinden door regelmatig met behulp van de virtuele Reverse Cache Box de afstand er naartoe te meten. Probeer voor een goede score om de Reverse Cache Box zo weinig mogelijk te gebruiken. Alle instructies en benodigde informatie zijn opgenomen in de cartridge. De cartridge is meertalig, maar (nog?) niet in het Nederlands.
