This cache is near the Summerset Pohutukawa Retirement Village in Bell Block. It is on Pohutukawa Place and within the village there are numerous plantings of (you guessed it) Pohutukawa trees. These are spectacular around Christmas time. The village is fairly new and is in the process of being completed. It is comprised of 2-3 bedroom villas, cottages and a three storied Centre. The lower level has a cafe, library, large lounge, dining room areas and reception area, indoor swimming pool and theatre and many other areas for social gatherings and indoor activities. Level 2 and 3 cater for those who need greater care and food services. Outside facilities for croquet, bowls and petanque are available.
Vehicles both for in and out of the village use are reliant on petrol and electricity with numbers increasing rapidly in the latter. There are an increasing number of ebikes and electric mobile scooters so watch out for any speedsters while caching. These enable the residents easier and safer access to the coastal walkway and New Plymouth city, rather than via the motorway footpaths.
