Barrigada comes from the CHamoru word “barigada” for flank, and Tiyan from “tuyan” the word for stomach. “Sabana” means mountain or hilly area and probably comes from the Spanish word for savannah.
Mount Barrigada or Mount Tuyan has an elevation of 674 feet (205 meters). The hill offers spectacular views of central Guam and the ocean. A drive up North Sabana Drive leads to St. Dominic’s senior care facility, a Presbyterian Church, and Guam Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility. Its elevated central location makes it an ideal place for the island’s radio antenna farm located nearby. Both neighborhoods of Barrigada Heights and Latte Heights also share Mount Barrigada/Tuyan (even though Latte Heights belongs to the village of Mangilao and Barrigada Heights to the village of Barrigada).
The cache is our first hide in Guam after coming back from moving around the last twenty-some years. You can choose to park at the bottom of N Sabana Drive and get some exercise going up and down or make it an easy park and grab. We recommend coming around before dusk to see the great sunsets from here.
Please roll the log back up carefully and please return to the same location. BYOP.
