WELCOME TO OUR ALPHABETIC ANGUS SERIES
This has been inspired by the A/Z series by Perth Pathfinders which took us to many nice places in Perthshire.
Alphabetic Angus will take you to lots of similarly nice places in our home county, and can be done in any order.
Angus is a lovely county stretching from the east coast to the high mountains in the Angus Glens. It was known as Forfarshire, with Forfar as the county town, until 1928 when Angus was adopted as the new county name.
ZOAR
An area at the north end of Forfar bounded by Brechin Road, Muir Street and Zoar Field. There is also a short street running parallel to Brechin Road called Zoar . The Zoar Inn (now closed) was on the corner of Muir Street and Brechin Road, and one street sign east of the Inn reads "Katarine Street Zoar". The area may be named after a small Hebrew city called Zoar. In Hebrew, Zoar means "small", which would fit with the small area in Forfar.
