This cache is found in “Sidewalk City”, a lovely residential space in Norwood Flats, on the west side of St. Boniface. Developed by an insurance company on the former land of the Norwood Golf Club, the finished site included 203 detached houses, built to face each other across lawns and central sidewalks instead of roads. Completed in 1950, this unique area sits between Lyndale Park along the Red River and Nordale School on Birchdale Drive.
True to the area’s design, this spot is accessible only by sidewalk – at a junction of paths coming from the west (Lyndale Drive), northeast (Nordale School), east (Birchdale Drive), or south (Lyndale Drive again). If you search early in the day when the weather is colder, you may come upon some wildlife; this is a favourite spot for the neighbourhood deer on lazy winter mornings.
