A short series of caches placed on Heath common for International Geocaching Day 2025.
Heath Common is an area of access land 1.5 miles east of Wakefield. The common comprises grassland and scrubland with the Trans Pennine Trail running along the western edge. The common boasts points of historical interest, including the Grade 1 listed Heath Hall and restored pinfold, bridleways, picnic benches, a pub and free parking. Annual events include a kite festival and a heritage easter fair.
The walk itself is relatively short and can be completed mostly on paved paths and roads if desired. The route can be shortened by crossing the common in several places. It is also possible to take in the stunning views from the high point of the common. A number of existing caches can also easily be incorporated into the route. There are usually tethered horses grazing on the grasslands, with other hazards including but not limited to uneven ground and thorny gorse bushes. There are a number of fast roads which pass through or border the common, so care should be taken when walking along or crossing those routes. There are a number of residential houses on and around the common, so please avoid completing this series at night. Given the footfall at this beauty spot and proximity to a city centre, there unfortunately is often litter to be found on the common, so why not make a difference by bringing along a bag and some grabbers?
