Geocache Description:

Populations of the once common black and orange Monarch butterfly have dropped 90% in just the last two decades. Threats to the species are the loss of habitat in the U.S. with the lack of availability of milkweed, the only host food plant for the caterpillars, and nectar plants needed by adults. Monarchs need milkweed. Monarch caterpillars only eat milkweed and the plant provides all the nourishment the monarch needs to transform from the caterpillar into the adult butterfly.

How does collecting seeds and making them into mudballs help the environment? By helping the monarch population they in return help by pollinating plants.

Please join us for our 3rd annual save the Monarchs CITO. We will be collecting native plant seeds for the mudballs. The mudballs can be taken home or left for the DAWC to distribute at the center.

WHEN: 10am until 11:30am

Lunch will be served after the event.
