Monte Cristo is an abandoned mining town in the Cascade Mountains. Starting in 1889 promising finds were made in the Glacier Basin leading to a mining rush with hundreds of mining claims made in the area. Big investors opened several mines and built a railroad line to the town that became Monte Cristo. However the ores were never consistently profitable and the after the initial boom ending in 1917 the town was finally abandoned. Nature finished off the town with massive floods washing out road and rail.
