Tooradin Village is located about 65km from the city CBD Early History and European Settlement. Here are some interesting facts.
Aboriginal Origins
The name Tooradin is derived from the Aboriginal term "too-roo-dun," referring to a swamp monster or bunyip.
Early Exploration
The explorer William Hovell visited the area in 1827, noting evidence of sealers' camps at the time.
Cattle Stations
In 1839, European settlers established cattle runs and began draining swamps.
Tooradin Run
The Tooradin Run, a large area of 16,000 acres, was taken up in 1840.

Tooradin is also associated with the early history of the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV), with some accounts suggesting the idea for the club originated during a breakdown in Tooradin in 1903.
