Cache series: GeoDogs
This series of caches is designed for geocachers who have furry companions, AKA geodogs, who can come along for the hunt and enjoy spending some time at GZ.
The specifications of these locations may vary, eg. some fully fenced and others not, but all will be welcoming to your tail-wagging companion.
Bowker Oval Reserve
Bowker Oval Reserve is an off-leash, mostly fenced multi purpose oval with a separately fenced playground. The playground in particular here has seen some changes over the years. Two noteworthy features of the reserve are the community book swap cabinet and the North Brighton Community Garden. I originally wanted to have a cache hidden in there, however it is now locked except for certain times on certain days so that wouldn’t work very well.
Park Facilities include:
- Playground
- Tennis court
- Basketball court
- BBQ
- Drinking fountains
- Tap and dog bowl
- Picnic tables
- Seating and shelter
- Dog bag station
- Parking, including off-street
- Toilets (daylight hours)
Conditions of use apply.
The cache
There are few caches in this area and I have been wanting to hide a cache at this park for a while now. Two of its unique features are the community book swap cabinet and the North Brighton Community Garden. I originally wanted to have the cache hidden in there, however it is now locked except for certain times on certain days so that wouldn’t work very well.
The cache has instead been placed nearby. It is most easily accessible from car park off of Brimble Street, or by entering through the gate off of Hopkins Crescent. There are other entry points to the oval but these are the closest to the cache.
The cache contains only a logbook, BYO pen. Pathtag for the FTF.
FAQ
"Wait... I've been here before! Well, I was over there!?"
Yes, you probably found version 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3... and I decided three replacements in under 18 months is too many. I made the decision to archive that hide and create a new one, rather than just moving it, as it's a different hide not super close to the original. So, if you found my cache here before, congrats, you get to find it again!
