Geocache Description:

This geocache is our first geocache placed.  Chantel is Gen X and Aviva is Gen Alpha.  Generation Alpha is the first to be born entirely in the 21 Century and the Third Millennium.  Aviva is starting her final year of elementary school.  We hope you enjoy discovering this cache as much as we did devising it. Just sending you to a location to trade swag would be neat but we figured once you got inside a building, you wouldn't mind a little puzzling multi-stage adventure. Traveling is such a large part of geocaching and some escapades are more fantastical than others.  The great thing about the library is that it is filled with more adventures than you can imagine or experience in a lifetime.  Fairytales are some of the first trips that we go on in our imagination.  These chronicles are often compiled into larger collections of stories and shelved in the nonfiction area of the library. We love the way fairy tales are all encompassing and thought we would tell you about a trickster tale because it is fun to share that kind of stuff - especially for our first one. So, there once lived a normal creature who was not crazy but CRAY-CRAY. His name was Thomas. The fairies saw him one day and "Bippity-Boppity-Booped" Thomas and he didn’t even notice! After that day he was nonstop chitter chatter and wouldn’t even tell a single lie!  Not even his favorite animal, the zebra, could do something about it. It was like his tongue couldn’t even move with one lie in his mouth; he would just spit it out like old slimy broccoli.

Based on the ballad of Thomas the Rhymer, a piece of folklore in which Thomas Learmonth's love of the Queen of Elfland was rewarded with the gift of prophecy. "Thomas the Rhymer" is a Scottish folk ballad and legend about a poet who meets the Queen of Elfland and gains abilities after spending time in her realm. The story, also known as "True Thomas", involves a contract with the Queen, a journey to Fairyland, and a return to the mortal world with the ability to speak only the truth. The tale is a classic "Voyage & Return" narrative, with elements of fantasy and folklore. Thomas the Rhymer is a novel by American writer Ellen Kushner.  Your assignment is to seek the truth, find the puzzle where Thomas should be. You can find this adventure and other trickster tales at 398.22

No contact required by geocaching.com guidelines. Caches cannot require geocachers to contact the cache owner or anyone else. Players must be able to find the cache without interacting with staff in the building.  You should not need to ask a library staff member for assistance in locating or solving any portion of this geocache.

Hint:  The Dewey Decimal System organizes nonfiction information into 10 broad areas (the numbers on the left side of the dot,) which are broken down into more specific topics (the numbers on the right side of the decimal.) Different topics are assigned these numbers, known as "call numbers."  The call numbers remain the same whether the non-fiction book is written at a reading level for adults or children, printed in English text, other languages, read aloud, a video, or large print.  So, for instance, true books about "Tigers" are given the call number 599.756 and can be found in many different areas within the library’s stacks!

First to Find Prizes to choose from:  Bumblebee Crochet Kit, Metallic Pencils, Pencil Sharpeners, Resin Dogs, Blue & Red gemstones, mini Apples to Apples Cards, Mini Simon Game, Mini Water Ring Toss, stickers and more.  Travel Bug Bed included with four guests "dropped" in for a nap.
