Park in the main car park and follow the ‘orange’ route until you see the ‘Church Rock’ sign. Most of the way is a made-up track but it’s all uphill...don’t worry, it’s all downhill on the way back!
The last bit can be pretty muddy and the final ascent, though short, is quite steep and slippery.
On the way you should see the Bronze Age Burial Cairn which will give you a few minutes to catch your breath. Don’t be put off by the rating, it’s not that difficult, though if you want a circular, more strenuous route you can follow the orange trail for a 2 ½ hour walk.
It’s a popular area, even in winter, so you may need to look out for other walkers, though a mountain bike may be handy if you want to do this cache in double quick time.
There’s lots of wildlife to found in these woods. Look out for the treehoppers and red squirrels.
Update
Following Walker Dan’s visit, I think the reference to a church may be symbolic to ward off evil.
Not that I want to scare anyone off, but legend has it that a Yeti-like creature called a "Deugar" resides in a cave near Simonside and lives off the roasted carcases of lost walkers and campers. According to this map, the cave is very, very close to the location of the cache:
