Arthurlie- Arthur's meadow. This area has long been associated with the legends of King Arthur.

Arthurlie Cross

This (sand)stone cross shaft dates from 9th-10th century. It has intricate carvings in the 'Govan School' style. (The Govan Stones can be viewed at Govan Old Parish Church).

It is believed that it's original site was in a field called Cross-stane-park. In 1795 it was acting as a footbridge over a stream in Colinbar Glen. This resulted in one face of the stone being badly worn.

In ~1870 it was erected in the grounds of Arthurlee House after it was found being used as a gatepost on the estate. One side of the stone has an iron ring indented into it from its time in this role.

Sometime prior to 1942 it was moved to its current location (posted co-ordinates).
