At the entrance of this housing estate stood an old stone folly, and in it lived Abbey Brook — a gentle witch with bright eyes and a crooked velvet hat.
Long ago, she cast a protection spell over the land, and the housing estate was built in her honour. Residents often passed the folly without realising its magic, but children knew. They would leave small drawings and daisy chains on her doorstep, and Abbey Brook would send little gusts of warm breeze to guide them safely home.
Whenever someone lost something precious — a ring in the grass, a cat that wandered off — Abbey whispered a charm into the wind, and soon enough it found its way back.
The people of Abbey Brook Estate never spoke of it out loud, but every time they walked by the old stone folly and caught the faint scent of lavender and starlight on the air, they smiled… and felt safe.
