De Grote Marktstraat is dé plek om te shoppen in het hart van Den Haag. Dit bruisende winkelgebied wordt gekenmerkt door een mix van iconische winkels en schitterende gebouwen, elk met hun eigen unieke stijl. Het imposante Bijenkorf-gebouw, ontworpen door architect Piet Kramer, werd in 1936 geopend en is niet alleen een eyecatcher door zijn robuuste uitstraling, maar ook historisch belangrijk: het was namelijk het eerste gebouw in Nederland met roltrappen! Daarnaast is het pand van Peek & Cloppenburg uit 1929 een ware blikvanger met prachtige beeldhouwwerken van Pieter Bieslot, en is gebouwd in de stijl van de Haagse School. De nieuwe sectie van de passage heeft eenzelfde hoge glazen plafond als het historische deel, maar met een moderne twist.
In deze bijzondere stad, midden in het historische centrum, staat een nieuw pareltje: het appartementencomplex Grand Marché gerealiseerd in 2001, ontworpen door architect Cees Dam. Dit complex is geïnspireerd op de expressionistische architectuur en biedt de ultieme Haagse woonervaring. De Art Nouveau gevel uit 1910, met zijn imposante middenstuk en twee risalerende eindtraveeën met twee bouwlagen en kapverdieping, is prachtig gerestaureerd.

The Grote Marktstraat is the shopping destination in the heart of The Hague. This vibrant shopping area is defined by a mix of iconic stores and stunning buildings, each with its own unique style. The impressive Bijenkorf building, designed by architect Piet Kramer, opened in 1936 and is not only a visual masterpiece but also historically significant: it was the first building in the Netherlands to feature escalators! Additionally, the Peek & Cloppenburg store from 1929 is a real eye-catcher with its beautiful sculptures by Pieter Bieslot and is built in the style of the Hague School. The new section of the passageway has the same high glass ceiling as the historic part, but with a modern twist.
In this remarkable city, right in the heart of the historic center, stands a new gem: the Grand Marché apartment complex, completed in 2001 and designed by architect Cees Dam. This complex is inspired by expressionist architecture and offers the ultimate living experience in The Hague. The Art Nouveau facade from 1910, with its impressive central section and two projecting end bays with two floors and a roof level, has been beautifully restored.
