Sanlu Island, also known as the "New Taipei Metropolitan Area," refers to an alluvial sandbar located in the Tamsui River within New Taipei City. It is composed of the Luzhou (formerly "Lu Chau") and Sanchong (formerly "Guotianzai") districts. Luzhou got its name from the abundance of reeds that once grew along its riverbanks, while Sanchong was named after the "three layers" of alluvial sandbars formed by the Tamsui River. Historically, the two areas were known as "Lu Chau Township" and "Guotianzai Village," later renamed Luzhou Township and Sanchong Town, respectively. In 1947, they were administratively separated, eventually forming the two districts as they are known today.

三蘆島，又稱「新北大都會區」，是指位於新北市的淡水河沖積沙洲，由蘆洲（鷺洲）與三重（過田仔）兩區構成。 蘆洲得名於早期河岸蘆葦叢生，而三重則因位於淡水河的「三重」沖積沙洲而得名。 早期兩區分別以「鷺洲鄉」和「過田仔莊」為名，後來更名為蘆洲鄉和三重鎮，並於1947年分治，後合併成為今日的兩區。
