Series Information
One of the things I love about commuting by public transport is that you get to see things out the window that you otherwise would not have noticed when using other modes of transportation. However, when you're in the rush of the commute, you can often lose perspective of your surroundings.
This series intends to takes a closer look at the public art at stations along Perth's public transport network.
Artwork Information
Hills that Walk
Alexander Knox Studio (2025)
The emu has walked across this land for thousands of years. This artwork depicts the emu's walking cycle by layering images to create a sense of movement on printed and perforated aluminium panels. The shape of the emu's back forms a rippled line, reflecting the curves of the landscape. On the lower panels, you can see patterns that represent the temporary tracks left behind by emus and other animals as they move through the land.
Instructions

The posted coordinates will lead you to the artwork pictured above and a plaque.
You need to observe the cicular lights surrounding the base of the artwork. This may be easier to observe at night. Identify the answers to calculate A, B, C and D.
- A = Number of circular lights in the garden on the Ranford Road side of the artwork.
- B = Number of circular lights in the garden on the station building side of the artwork.
- C = Number of circular lights on paving.
- D = Number of circular lights touching a dark grey paver.
Substitute the answers into the following equations:
- F = D - B
- G = C / D
- H = A
- J = A
- K = B * 2
- L = A - A
