Geocache Description:

Our Lady of England Priory, Storrington.
Built between 1902–1904 to designs by Edward Goldie, this brick church with stone dressings stands as a graceful example of early 20th-century ecclesiastical architecture. Though modest in budget, it harmonizes beautifully with the adjoining monastic buildings of the Premonstratensian community, established in 1888 by French Canons.

The church features a broad nave with stepped lancets, a polygonal chancel, and a northwest tower—unfinished, with a temporary bell stage. Inside, the light-filled space is simple yet dignified, with monks’ stalls encircling the apse and a striking 1959 triptych by David O’Connell adorning the north wall. The cloister and monastic ranges to the south and west date from the original foundation.

Goldie, known for works like St James’s Spanish Place in London, left a quiet legacy here—one of architectural restraint, spiritual clarity, and enduring presence.
