INTRODUCTION TO THIS SERIES:
Winter, spring, summer, fall - welcome geocachers, one and all!
We love hiking at Dishman Hills and wanted to place our first geocache series in our favorite local natural area. Originally, this series was placed as autumn approached, and all four caches in the series represented a fall theme. The intent was to add another series to the Dishman Hills area each season with themed containers corresponding to that season. However, it proved to be exceedingly difficult to get locations approved in Dishman Hills on this website, so we’ve reassigned the existing approved locations to represent all four seasons. A geocacher requested in the comments that we hide more in this series, and we apologize for being unable to expand the series on this website with additional caches. It seems Dishman Hills is practically full on this website, so we’re just grateful we were able to get the four locations used in this series approved.
Each container in this series visually aligns with one of the four seasons, replacing containers that originally all represented a fall theme, making this shorter-than-intended series now applicable all year. Therefore, you’ll notice older photos in the comments showing containers that have been replaced with a different seasonal theme, but we hope that you’ll enjoy the new seasonally themed containers just as much. The tradable trinkets are not themed, only the containers. We’d love to see your photos posted. Thanks for joining us on this adventure!
NOTES ON THIS PARTICULAR GEOCACHE:
+ Please pay attention as to how the “door” is positioned when removing it so that you can easily replace it when finished.
+ We recommend wearing gloves to reach your hand into any geocache hiding spot because you never know what else may be hiding in there too!
+ Admittedly, many of my “riddles” are not very cryptic. Our children grew up with rhyming riddles I’d written for scavenger hunts that we did to celebrate special occasions each year. As they got older, our kids complained that the riddles were too easy. I explained that I could make the riddles rhyme or make them difficult, but I couldn’t do both. They preferred the rhymes. On a hiking trail, a lot of the same natural features are repeated, such as trees and rocks. It can be a challenge to come up with new rhymes about the same natural features. Therefore, many of the riddles are not difficult to solve because the priority was to create fun rhymes. However, we created this series with families in mind, so these riddles are perfect for children, but adults may want to forgo reading the riddle that follows, unless you need an additional hint.
RIDDLE:
Pines shade the morning sun from its door,
Which hides the surprise you’ll have in store.
On a plateau overlooking a varied terrain,
Among these stones a geocache has lain.
