The Assiniboine Park Zoo is a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Saving Animals from Extinction (S.A.F.E.) North American Songbirds Program.
Many birds call Winnipeg home in the winter. They do not migrate and spend their entire lives here.
Some examples are the house sparrow, pigeons, northern cardinals, blue jays, pileated woodpeckers, black capped chickadees, tufted titmice, northern mockingbirds, common ravens, great horned owls and many more. Some birds move only if food sources are scarce.
