In an effort to bring art to the community and beautify the utilitarian boxes that house traffic signal wires, the Pierce County Arts Commission in 2022 began a project to wrap signal boxes with the work of local artists. Artists submitted their work as a high resolution photo. The county converted the pictures to vinyl wraps.
Hillarie Isackson is a Gig Harbor native, growning up surrounded by the rich fishing community. Her art on this box is the Shenandoah. This boat remains in reconstruction at the Harbor History Museum, after being on the water from 1925-1997. Her vision for this painting was to present the Shenandoah full of life and color, as it cruises through the harbor with a palette of colorful nets adorning it’s bow.
