Geocache Description:

Old Gympie Road has a rich history linked to the Gympie gold rush and early transportation in Queensland. Initially, it was an Aboriginal trail used by the Turrbal and Kabi/Gubbi-Gubbi people. The gold rush in the 1860s spurred its development as a route for miners and supplies heading north from Brisbane. Cobb and Co coaches, along with other travelers, utilised the road, which was often challenging due to poor conditions and river crossings. The road's northern section was later incorporated into Anzac Avenue, and Old Gympie Road continues to be a vital transport corridor today, albeit with significant upgrades.

I can remember back when I was a young girl, travelling in the back of the family Kingswood on our way to the Sunny Coast, Dad driving along Old Gympie Road which of course , long before the Bruce Highway, was the main route north. It remains today with farms still in existence and steeped in ancient aboriginal history.

I decided a few caches along here, with the emphasis on all things old (feeling my age!), would be a tribute to the good old days.

Please park safely as some folk still think it's a highway! Parking at Mt Coochin hikers carpark.
