Celebrate 200 Years of Railway History!
In 1825, the Stockton & Darlington Railway opened the world’s first passenger railway station on Tuesday 27th September — a milestone that transformed travel forever. Steam locomotives carried passengers and goods at unprecedented speed, sparking a transport revolution that connected towns, boosted industry, and shaped modern Britain.
This special SideTracked Railway 200 event at Wellington is part of a nationwide celebration running from Wednesday 24th to Tuesday 30th September 2025. All finds and hides from this event count towards your SideTracked statistics, and a unique profile badge will be created especially for this event. Whether your chosen location is old, disused, miniature, or still bustling today, it’s part of a railway story that’s been 200 years in the making.
Monday 29th September, 2025. 10:45-11:15
I will be staying in Wellington and Telford this weekend and didn't want to miss out on the celebrations, so thought why not host my own event while there and maybe meet a few local Geocachers at the same time?
Meeting point will be outside the main station entrance on station road, but if its poor weather and raining we may take cover in the Station hotel and bar opposite the station entrance.
I believe there is free parking in the stations long stay car park on the opposite side of the station and tracks (Platform 1), but as im not from the area im not totally sure and going off info online.
The local bus station is only a couple of minutes walk away too so plenty of transport choices.
Access from Station Road is fully Wheelchair accessable.
There is Access from platform 2 (from Birmingham direction) but NO disabled access from Platform 1 or the car park due to station layout and facilities.
