If you’ve been stopped at a traffic light in Pierce County, you’ve likely seen some beautiful pieces of art in unlikely places. In an effort to bring art to the community and beautify the utilitarian boxes that house traffic signal wires, the Pierce County Arts Commission in 2022 began a project to wrap signal boxes with the work of local artists.
Carrie Alyson is a Tacoma based Artist. Her art on this box is "Vibrant Tide Pools". Carrie says "This painting was inspired by sense-memories of tide pooling on a chilly morning in the drizzling rain. From a distance everything was grey, but up close the tide pools were teeming with color—from the yellow and orange kelp to shiny black-blue mussel shells."
This is at a busy intersection of Wollochet and East Bay Drive. There are some shoulders you can pull off and park on the side of the road on East Bay Drive. But be careful of traffic. There is a cross walk with signal that could come in handy. Although this brings you to this beautiful Art, it is not located on this Art box...but very close by.
