Un’antica cascina in città, oggi ospita una biblioteca!
Ex cascina Ravelli che risale al XV secolo
Un edificio storico che nel corso dei decenni è sopravvissuto alle costruzioni moderne e che è presente ancora oggi tra via Gasparini e via Piacentini. Con un’altra funzione rispetto al passato: niente più stalle, animali e attrezzi agricoli.
Nel 1575 apparteneva ai nobili Alzani e la cascina incorpora una casa padronale risalente al XV secolo, ha subito numerose trasformazioni nel corso dei secoli.
Il fabbricato è disposto attorno a tre lati della corte interna a formare una forma a U e connotata da una parte centrale, verso via Gasparini, di vecchia destinazione abitativa su tre livelli di piani accessibili dai tradizionali ballatoi in legno. Anche il corpo verso Ovest aveva funzioni abitative mentre quello ad est era legato all’attività produttiva ed agraria con la stalla e il fienile.
L’abbandono della proprietà da parte dei tenutari e l’occupazione successiva di affittuari, in genere di modeste origini, ha provocato un progressivo degrado e il definitivo abbandono. Nel 2003 venne recuperato lo stabile dopo un periodo di abbandono e il Comune decise di riqualificarlo in chiave residenziale e sociale. Nel progetto di recupero le 13 unità abitative sono state collocate dove originariamente erano collocate le residenze. Dove si trovavano la stalla e il fienile ha ora sede la biblioteca decentrata intitolata a Betty Ambiveri, una politica e filantropa bergamasca. Al piano terra troviamo reception, emeroteca, sala ragazzi, punti internet e le sale consultazione. La sala superiore è adibita a sala studio e per lo svolgimento di attività culturali ma anche come sala polivalente a disposizione della comunità al di fuori degli orari di apertura della biblioteca.

The Cache is part of the "Produzioni ininterrotte" series, a project dedicated to preserving the memory of labor. It invites you to imagine vanished (or nearly vanished) stories from the Bergamo area that have left behind hidden traces.
An ancient farmhouse right in the city now houses a library! This is the former Cascina Ravelli, dating back to the 15th century. This historic building has remarkably survived decades of modern construction and still stands today between Via Gasparini and Via Piacentini. It serves a very different purpose now: no more stables, animals, or farm tools.
Originally belonging to the noble Alzani family in 1575, the farmhouse incorporates a manor house from the 15th century and has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries. The building is arranged in a U-shape around three sides of an internal courtyard. The central section, facing Via Gasparini, was historically residential, featuring three levels accessible by traditional wooden balconies. The west wing also served as living quarters, while the east wing was dedicated to agricultural production, housing the stable and hayloft.
Over time, the abandonment of the property by its owners and subsequent occupation by tenants, generally of modest means, led to progressive decay and eventual abandonment. In 2003, the building was finally reclaimed after a period of disuse, and the Municipality decided to redevelop it for residential and social purposes. In the recovery project, 13 residential units were placed where the original living quarters once stood. The former stable and hayloft now host the decentralized library named after Betty Ambiveri, a politician and philanthropist from Bergamo.
On the ground floor of the library, you'll find the reception, newsroom, children's area, internet stations, and consultation rooms. The upper floor is dedicated to study and cultural activities, but it also functions as a multipurpose room available to the community outside library hours.
