If there were sand bunkers on the golf course you would be expected to re-instate the sand surface with a rake before moving on, thereby ensuring that everyone has the same fun - the analogy being that once the cache is found, put it back as you found it thereby ensure the challenge is the same for the next finder, this offers the finder the ability reset differently but the same.
