This cache is a replacement for another one that had been here for almost 16 years before it was archived. I love dogs and my dogs are full fledged members of my family, so when I saw the description of the original cache not only did I need to log it, I knew I needed to continue its legacy after being archived.
We lost a very special dog last year, his name is Grizzly. I will keep Grizzly's caches (he has several) going for as long as I'm alive and I also think that Boo's memory deserves to be kept alive as long as possible as well.
The original cache was called Boo's Box and its description is as follows:
This cache is placed in Memory of our beloved dog “Malibu”
6/6/91 to 5/7/05. It is called Boo's Box because Malibu was called "Boo".
All the swag for trading items is related to dogs, toys, leashes, etc.
Anyone is welcome to come up and visit the cache, whether you leave the same type of swag or not.
Hopefully, you will share something about your favorite pet, either in the log book and/or when you post your find.
Malibu was a Siberian Husky and used to love to play in the snow. He came up here numerous times to play and romp around in the snow. Now that we have moved up here to the Frazier Park area, I have been wanting to place a cache in his memory. He gave us so much grief and pleasure over the years. He was a typical Husky (always into mischief), but on the other hand he gave us his unconditional love.- Robin
For anyone who has had a dog that is no longer with them and is in doggy heaven, here is ‘A Dog’s Prayer” by Beth Norman Harris.
"Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please do take me inside…for I am a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements…and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth… Though have you no home, I should prefer to follow you through ice and snow, rather than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water…for although I should not reproach you were it dry…I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding…to walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, master, when I am old, if the great master sees fit to deprive me of my health or sight…do not turn me from you. Rather, take my trusting life gently…and I shall leave you…knowing with my last breath my fate was always safest in your beloved hands.
~Amen."
