We all know that geocaching can take us to interesting and weird places that we might have never heard of otherwise. I figured that events could be used in a similar manner to point out curious events and stories, various odds and sods, that I stumbled upon while wandering around in internet rabbit holes.
On this day
in 1901
Brazilian pioneer aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont won the Deutsch de la Meurthe prize that was offered to the first machine capable of flying from the Aéro-Club de France's flying field at Parc Saint Cloud to the Eiffel Tower in Paris and back in less than thirty minutes. Santos-Dumont accomplished this feat using his experimental airship Santos-Dumont No. 6. completing the journey in 29 minutes and 30 seconds.
