There is a drive you can pull across where the old gate is. Now where you're at is where the Allen Township Dump was once located. It opened in 1939 when the township bought the land from Harry Lair. People would come and drop off what they had and sometimes other would haul it away. The trash was burned and and the reminants covered in gravel to keep the smell and bugs down. In 1965 they hired someone to run it so they could ensure only residents were bringing trash in. In 1971 they started to bring in trailers to haul the trash away. From talking to area residents it is beieved to have closed in the mid to late 70's. I've lived about 2 mile from it since 1982 and never knew it exsisted until recently. The loading dock and remains of a small building still remain.
