Alle Vögel sind schon da,
klingen durch die Zweige.
Fink und Drossel, Star und Spatz
schwingen sich mit leichtem Satz
über Wiesen, Feld und Platz,
bis zur Tagesneige.
Zwischen Blättern, über’m Teich
klingen ihre Weisen.
Meise ruft aus ihrem Nest,
Amsel singt im Abendrest,
und ihr Ruf, so froh und fest,
trägt den Wink ganz leise.
Doch ein Kleiner bleibt versteckt,
singt mit feinem Tone.
Brust wie Flamme, Blick so klar,
leuchtet von der Wand sogar,
hütet dort , ganz wunderbar,
auch des Schatzes Zone.

All the birds are here today,
singing through the branches.
Finch and blackbird, starling too,
glide across the skies so blue,
over meadow, field and dew,
till the daylight blanches.
Through the leaves and near the pond
echo all their phrases.
Titmouse calls from in her nest,
blackbird sings with evening zest,
and their choir, in feathered vest,
whispers gentle traces.
But one small bird stays unseen,
softly he is singing.
Chest like flame and eyes so bright,
painted there in quiet light,
guards a place, both out of sight,
where the cache is clinging.
