Geocache Description:

The granite water trough along the trail at Barrett Park is likely a relic from the early 20th century, when such fixtures were common in public parks and rural areas. These troughs were originally installed to provide drinking water for horses, especially in places where riders or work teams passed through regularly. Made from durable stone, they could withstand weather and wear, often fed by gravity or hand-pumped sources nearby. Over time, as horse traffic declined and plumbing systems evolved, many troughs were left in place as historical markers. The cache is not hidden in the trough, but is within sight of it.

This geocache was released for The BarterDash game leading up to the Johnny Appleseed GeoFest in October, 2025.
