Henry Ruff Road, Middlebelt and Beech Daly Roads:
Did you know that all three of these road names are connected by the same family?
It all begins with Francis Ruff, who ran a tavern at Michigan ave and Inkster road as early as 1827. He had three sons, two of which bought farms nearby. James Ruff had a 60 acre farm at the NE corner of Michigan ave and what is today Henry Ruff Road.
Henry was James' son and the road was named after him. James also had a daughter, Frances, who married John Daly.
The road with their farm became known as Jim Daly road, and later Beech Daly Road.
The Hiram Ruff farm was located at the NE corner of Michigan ave and Middlebelt. This road was originally called Jim Ruff road before being changed eventually to Middlebelt.
At least now we know a little more than we did before about Henry Ruff and family :)
