Geocache Description:

ABCs of Geocaching & Math

This is a series that is intended to show the connection between a hobby I enjoy and a career I love. I recently noticed the connection between many of the terms used in both geocaching and math. Some are interchangeable while others are connected, though differently. My goal is to show some common, and some not so common, geocaching terms and then share how that term is used in math.

N is for Number

Numbers are the backbone of geocaches. They are used to identify coordinates you put into your GPS. They are used to identify distance from the cache. Degrees, for direction and puzzles, also include numbers. There are puzzles that use numbers exclusively, known as codes.

Math revolves around numbers! Whether you are calculating with them, using them to represent something, or just counting, they are in constant use. There are even natural numbers represented in nature, such as the golden ratio which can be seen in the pattern of a sunflower seed.

Don’t overthink this as first instincts are often correct.

Please re-hide all caches as found. If there are questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me via messenger.
