Do you know, who Ifland was?
Robert Lee Ifland, a 31 years old guy from Illinois, a soldier (in the rank of Private First Class). He had been in the army since 1.5 years and just since 3 months in Europe. Married and awaiting their first baby. In the early morning of May 6, 1945, the troops were heading to Pilsen. His reconnaissance team advanced on their Jeep ahead of the troops along this path, parallel to the main road. They saw the town from a distance, just when they got out from the woods. Not so far... The war ends today!
But they had to do something with the flaks here. The Germans resist. Things started to go bad. Bob was hit. Despite, he kept fighting...
The task was accomplished, but Bob's injuries were too serious. The troops reached the town that morning, but without him. When he saw Pilsen from here, it was one of the last things he saw in his life. He no more saw his Lisa and he did not see his Jean ever...
