Geocache Description:

This geocache is a tribute to a true hidden gem, a place for quiet reflection and a love of nature. While the cache itself is not hidden within the reserve, it is placed nearby to guide you to this special spot: Pop's Wood Nature Reserve.

Pop's Wood is a small but beautiful sanctuary, a dedication to Peter (H.E.P.P.) Baden-Powell, who was known to his family simply as 'Pop.' He was a man of many lives: a Navy volunteer who survived three sinking ships in WWII, a lawyer who practiced in Malaya and the Channel Islands, and a devoted family man who instilled a love for nature in his children.

His life was filled with adventure and a dedication to service. He was educated at Charterhouse School and the Royal Military College at Sandhurst before serving in the British South Africa Police. Following his military service, he worked in the Southern Rhodesian Civil Service and later became a successful lawyer in Malaya, until political unrest led him to move his family to Jersey in 1954.

He also followed in his famous father's footsteps, becoming deeply involved in Scouting. He was the Guildmaster of The B–P Guild of Old Scouts and was awarded the Golden Pheasant Award from the Scout Association of Japan, a testament to his commitment.

The reserve was created by his grateful daughter, Imogen, to honor her father and his kind-hearted spirit. Pop's Wood is more than just a piece of land; it's a living memorial where you can connect with nature, find a peaceful place to rest, and appreciate the legacy of a remarkable man.

We invite you to bring a picnic and enjoy this spot. It's the perfect place to lay down a blanket, listen to the birds, and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
