Professor Huyang's Lessons

Professor Huyang, a Mark IV architect droid, has served the Jedi Order for thousands of years, teaching generations of younglings to construct their own lightsabers. In addition to being a quick wit and an excellent instructor, he's also a marvelous storyteller. Huyang has four lessons for you as you proceed along your journey to become a Jedi Knight.

Lesson 2: Sparking to Life

After constructing a lightsaber hilt, a Jedi initiate may be anxious to ignite the blade for the first time. Professor Huyang insists on overseeing construction and reviewing the final product, as an inattentive builder or a shoddy design can lead to catastrophic results. The power crystal is initially clear in color, but it will shift to match the nature of the weapon's owner. A damaged crystal may emit a dangerous and unpredictable blade, perhaps also matching its wielder. Some Jedi prefer one single-bladed lightsaber. Others, a matched pair. Still others use double-bladed sabers, preferring a staff-like weapon.
