The Iremongers Pond is a green space manged by locals from the village. It is not maintained by the council other than to empty the waste bins.

A few years ago a community orchard was established alongside the Iremongers Pond in Wilford Village. The Orchard is going to be extended with the donation of 30 new fruit trees and flowering cherry trees. This is an opportunity to help plant the trees. There will also be heavy duty wire cages installed to protect the young trees from local wildlife and any irresponsible members of society, who delight in breaking trees with thin trunks. Hopefully we will have use of an auger for drilling the main holes to plant the trees.
Some tools will be available but if you have any of the following then please bring them along, so multiple trees can be planted sumultaneously.
Spade - digging and filling holes
Lump hammer / Sledge hammer - driving stakes into the ground
Claw hammer - attaching wire mesh to poles with heavy duty staples
Bucket / Watering can - water the trees once planted
Gardening gloves
Protective footwear
Tree planting is not everyone's forte. So as well as planting trees, there will also be an opportunity to carry out litter picking (bin bags will be provided) and maintenance around the site. So please bring appropriate tools
Litter Picker - bin bags will be provided
gardening gloves
Pruning shears
Trowel
Bow saw
Please log a will attend so that we can gauge numbers, as some refreshments will be provided.
Free parking is available in the car park marked as a waypoint. If the car park is full there is also on street parking available. The Wilford Village tram stop is adjacent to the site if you wish to come on the tram.
Children are welcome to attend, but please supervise them as there is the hazard of large ponds on the site.
