After the battle of Bean Station in December 1863, General James Longstreet telegraphed Richmond, VA saying, "We shall be obligated to suspend active operations for want of shoes and clothing." In late 1863 to '64, his troops wintered around Russellville and Morristown.
This home was used by Confederate staff during that time.
It is actually the back of the house that faces highway 11E. The front of the house faced the original road, Russellville Pike.
There is a small parking area. Turn your vehicle around instead of trying to back out on to the highway. Also, keep an eye on children.
I have permission from the owners of the Billet for you to search this site. There is a Museum Shop on site.
The picture is of the original front of the house.
The container is large with items to trade.
