B&A Trail Walking CITO: 2025 - Season 2
Yes, a CITO on a Monday morning seems a bit of an unusual time to hold one. However, school is out of session on this day, and I was approached by some students who were interested in doing some morning service hours on their day off. When you have students interested in doing some good for the community and the environment, I felt obliged to try and make it happen. Hence, a Monday morning CITO! This one is nothing too special - just a chance to take a walk with a few other cachers and pick up some litter while we're at it. If attendees have not yet had a chance to earn their CITO 2025 - Season 2 Souvenior, now will also be a chance to do it.
Although simple in concept, I have held a few of these walking CITOs over the last three years in Columbia, MD and surprisingly a decent amount of trash was picked up. I have recently been biking along the B&A Trail during the weekends, and have noticed this particular stretch of the trail tends to accumulate a bit fo trash due to its proximity to a couple of local convienent stores. Hence, it seemed like a good spot to hold this event.
It is estimated that the CITO walking portion may take about 1 to 1.5 hours. Attendees can do as much of the route as they are able. Those who may need to get there late can find us along the marked route, or do their own clean-up.
CITO/Walk Route Details
We will meet up at 8:45AM at the Parking coordinates (marked as a waypoint), in a parking lot near a local ice cream establishment. We will plan to start the CITO walk by 9:00AM. As for the planned route, it is an out-and-back path that will occur totally on the B&A Trail, a flat paved walking/running/cycling trail. We will start the CITO itself from the posted coordinates, where the B&A Trail crosses Aquahart Road. We will then walk northwest along the B&A trail collecting trash as we walk, until we reach where the B&A Trail intersects 1st Avenue SE and Greenway S. From there, we will turn around and head back to the starting location, collecting any trash we may have missed on our first pass.
A map is shown below, with the bright green line representing the walking route. Point "A" represents the starting location, and Point "B" represents the location at which we will turn around. The total out-and-back route is approximately 1.5 miles in length. The CO will provide trash bags, but attendees should bring their own water, gloves, grabbers, and/or anything else they would like to use during the CITO.

Hope to see you there!
