The Moomins are in Wellington on a Wednesday.
Wednesday 5th November, 18:30-19:45, Troup Picnic Lawn, Otari-Wilton's Bush Reserve
Come and join me for a Wellywood Wednesday with a difference and meet Moomintroll.
The Moomins are a family of white, round fairy-tale characters with large snouts that make them resemble the hippopotamus. They are characters in a series of novels, short stories, picture books, and a comic strip by the Finnish writer and illustrator Tove Jansson, originally published in Swedish by a Finnish publisher.
When I was a lot younger I enjoyed reading these books. Last year when I was in Helsinki I came across the Moomin shop and I was reminded of the books. As this area of Otari reminds of Moomin Valley, it is a good place to hold this month's Wellywood Wednesday.

Moominvalley is an idyllic and peaceful place where the Moomins live in harmony with nature. The largest building in the valley is the Moominhouse, and its occupants welcome all visitors from the valley and further afield.
A river runs through this beautiful valley, which lies between the sea and the mountains, including a range called the Lonely Mountains. When spring arrives, the valley bursts into bloom, as does Moominmamma's treasured garden.
A path leads from the Moominhouse to the seashore, where the Moomins have built a small bathhouse. The Moomins love the sea and enjoy hanging out at the beach. Sometimes, they set out on journeys of exploration that take them far from Moominvalley, but they know they always have a safe home to return to.

So let's have a picnic of sorts: bring your own choice of takeaway, something to sit on, enjoy each other’s company
AND enjoy a Moomintroll dessert:
- Pumpkin Pie
- Moominmamma’s Apple Pie
- Meringue Tart
- and possibly Moominmamma’s Pancakes.
Please log your intention to attend by Monday 3rd November so I know how many desserts I am making. TIA.
As usual, there is no FTF for this event as you attend events not find them.
