Many moons ago when I volunteered at Auckland Zoo I went to the keeper talk about the elephants, Kashin and Burma.
I learnt quite a bit that day. I learnt that there were two different types of elephants in the world. One was an Asian Elephant and the larger and bigger ones were African Elephants. Kashin and Burma were Asian Elephants. The keepers do training so they are able to check to ensure they’re healthy. The keeps use commands that are in zulu or swahili . This helps prevent the public from learning the commands.
A few little fun facts:
- Asian elephants have smaller ears.
- Female asian elephants don’t have tusks - they have tushes.
- Elephants love using their trunks to move logs.
- Elephants love dirt baths

Oops I forgot (Elephants don’t forget)
