History:
Andrews University, located in Berrien Springs, Michigan, is the flagship institution of higher education for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It began as Battle Creek College, the first Adventist college, and was later relocated to Berrien Springs under the name Emmanuel Missionary College. After merging with the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary and expanding into a full university, it was renamed Andrews University in honor of John Nevins Andrews, the denomination’s first official missionary and a noted scholar.
Today, Andrews University is a private, coeducational university offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. It is particularly recognized for its theological studies, health sciences, and international student body, which represents more than 90 countries. The campus features modern academic facilities, residence halls, a library, and recreational spaces, and continues to serve as the intellectual and spiritual center of the Adventist educational system worldwide.
The Cache:
The caches are hidden in three kinds of locations:
- farm roads surrounding the town
- roads/parking lots/paths around Berrien Springs
- the biking/walking/hiking trail system on the north side of the university campus
Most are simple pill bottles and ideally available in winter. The trail caches are available during DAYLIGHT ONLY; please don’t attempt after dark. The farm road hides are available at night, but PLEASE USE CAUTION! Parking lot caches are also available at night, but still use caution and discretion. For the health of our Geocaching community, please be respectful of property and boundaries; to find the caches, you won’t need to destroy or encroach on other people’s property.
