Buckbarrow Bridge over Corney Fell has finally reopened after two years of closure.
It was originally closed in August 2023 due to safety concerns and was eventually demolished and replaced with a much-improved str stronger version designed to outlast its predecessor.
The road over Corney Fell shaves off about ten minutes of travel bypassing a large section of the A595. However, it’s not a route for the faint-hearted — the single-track road winds its way over the fell with numerous bends, steep climbs, and treacherous drops. At times, it’s closed due to harsh weather conditions that can take drivers by surprise, engulfing the road in thick cloud and not forgetting the gangs of sheep that roam freely.
Please take care on the road it can become busy there is a small lay-by on the north side of the brigde but do be aware of passing vehicles.
happy caching.
