The Cougar Creek Streamkeepers (CCS) have many projects that are all interconnected in the environmental stewardship of the creek. Since 2021 we helped them restore trails, install protective fencing on trees to protect from beavers, plant shrubs and trees, liberate trees from ivy and brambles, construct temporary fencing and maintain rain gardens.
They are also deeply involved in the management of raingarden projects in North Delta, and beyond. There are currently 26 rain gardens which help filter run off from streets, driveways and roofs and to slow the flow of water entering the stream systems.
Many of these rain gardens are created and maintained by schools, churches, some youth organisations, and others have been adopted by local familes, all in partnership with CCS.
This will be our first visit to this particular rain garden.
Lookout Preschool raingarden is located at the back of the rear parking lot at North Delta Rec Centre. This area is in development and a local guide troop is working with the CCS to plant trees here. However we need to do some blackberry and ivy removal to make way for the plants.
For this CITO we'll be removing blackberry (by the root where possible) and removing ivy.
