石洞美術館は、美術工藝を通しての国際間の文化交流、相互理解の促進、我が国文化の向上を図るため、2006年４月に公益財団法人美術工芸振興佐藤基金によって設立されました。所蔵品は、当法人の初代理事長である佐藤千壽が収集したコレクションを核としており、美術館の名称は佐藤の雅号「石洞」から採っています。
石洞美術館が入っている建物は千住金属工業株式会社（はんだ製造）の本社ビルですが、銅板葺きおろしの屋根、煉瓦タイル貼の平面六角形のユニークな建物です。
The Sekido Museum was established in April 2006 by the Sato Foundation for the Promotion of Fine Arts and Crafts, a public interest incorporated foundation, to promote international cultural exchange and mutual understanding through fine arts and crafts, and to enhance Japanese culture. Its collection centers on the holdings gathered by Senju Sato, the foundation's first chairperson, and the museum's name is derived from Sato's pen name, “Sekido.”
The building housing the Sekido Museum is the headquarters of Senju Metal Industry Co., Ltd. (solder manufacturing). It is a unique structure featuring a copper-clad roof and brick-tiled hexagonal floor plan.
