Nous sommes ici pour examiner le sol en marbre orné de l'arcade, plus précisément la zone indiquée sur la photo. Nous sommes ici pour examiner la brèche.
🤔 Qu'est-ce qu'une brèche ?
Une brèche est une roche formée de fragments d'autres roches, appelés clastes, qui sont ensuite cimentés ensemble dans ce qu'on appelle une matrice. Imaginez un assemblage de biscuits brisés maintenus ensemble par du chocolat : c'est une matrice. Dans le cas d'une brèche, la matrice est formée par un ciment naturel. Une brèche est principalement composée de fragments anguleux (tandis que les conglomérats contiennent des clastes arrondis).
➡️ Une brèche peut se former de diverses manières :
▫️Consolidation : par exemple, accumulation de matériaux au pied de pentes abruptes.
▫️Cataclastique : lors du processus de formation de failles.
▫️Volcanique : composée de cendres et de morceaux de lave.
▫️Hydrothermique : causée par la fracturation de la masse rocheuse par un fluide.
▫️Impact : lorsqu’un météore percute le sol, il fracture la roche au point d’impact.
➡️ Classification : ▫️Matrice supportée : les clastes ne se connectent pas entre eux et la matrice entoure chaque claste.
▫️Supportée Clastes : les clastes se touchent et la matrice comble les trous.

🇧🇪 VLAAMSE BESCHRIJVING.
Deze EarthCache brengt je naar het Jubelpark, meer specifiek naar de arcade vlakbij het Automuseum. De onderstaande foto laat zien waar je moet kijken.
🤔 Waar komen we hier naar kijken?
We zijn hier om de sierlijke marmeren vloer van de arcade te bekijken, meer specifiek het gedeelte dat op de foto is aangegeven. We zijn hier om naar de breccie te kijken.
🤔Wat is Breccia?
Breccia is een gesteente dat gevormd wordt door stukken van ander gesteente, klasten genaamd, die vervolgens aan elkaar worden gekit in een matrix. Stel je een verzameling gebroken koekjes voor die bij elkaar worden gehouden door chocolade - dat is een matrix. In het geval van Breccia wordt de matrix gevormd door een natuurlijk cement. Breccia bestaat grotendeels uit hoekige fragmenten (terwijl conglomeraten afgeronde klasten bevatten).
➡️ Breccia kan op verschillende manieren ontstaan:
▫️ Consolidatie - zoals het verzamelen van materiaal aan de voet van steile hellingen.
▫️ Cataclastisch - tijdens het breukproces.
▫️ Vulkanisch - bestaande uit as en lavabrokken.
▫️ Hydrothermisch - veroorzaakt door vloeistof die de rotsmassa breekt.
▫️Inslag - wanneer een meteoor de grond raakt, breekt hij het gesteente op de inslagplaats.
➡️ Classificatie:
▫️Matrix-ondersteund - waarbij de klasten elkaar niet raken en de matrix elke klast omgeeft.
▫️Klas-ondersteund - waarbij de klasten elkaar raken en de matrix de gaten vult.
➡️ Polymictisch of monomictisch?
▫️ Polymictisch betekent dat de klasten verschillende soorten gesteenten zijn.
▫️ Monomictisch betekent dat de klasten allemaal hetzelfde type gesteente zijn.

This EarthCache takes you to the Parc du Cinquantenaire, more specifically the arcade near to the Automobile Museum. The below photograph shows where to look.
🤔 What are we here to look at?
We are here to look at the ornate marble flooring of the arcade, more specifically the area indicated in the photograph. We are here to look at breccia.
🤔 What is Breccia?
Breccia is a rock formed by pieces of other rocks, known as clasts, which are then cemented together in what is known as a matrix. Imagine a collection of different broken biscuits held together by chocolate - that is a matrix. In the case of breccia, the matrix is formed by a natural cement. Breccia is composed largely of angular fragments (whereas conglomerates contain rounded clasts).
➡️ Breccia can be formed by a variety of ways :
▫️Consolidation - such as the collection of material at the bottom of steep slopes.
▫️Cataclastic -during the process of faulting.
▫️Volcanic - composed of ash and chunks of lava.
▫️Hydrothermal - caused by fluid fracturing the rock mass.
▫️Impact - from when a meteor hits the ground, it fractures the rock at the impact site.
➡️ Classification :
▫️Matrix supported - where the clasts do not connect with other, and the matrix surrounds each clast.
▫️Clast supported - where the clasts touch other, and the matrix fills the holes.
➡️ Polymictic or Monomictic?
▫️ Polymictic, means the clasts are different types of rocks.
▫️ Monomictic, means the clasts are all the same type of rock.
